British Emergency
Eye Care Society

BEECS was founded in 2013 with the aim of bringing together clinicians from all over the United Kingdom who share an interest in emergency eye care.

We run an annual scientific meeting open to all healthcare professionals involved in emergency ophthalmology.

About us

We are a team of surgeons, consultants, resident doctors, nurse practitioners, optometrists and orthoptists at BEECS. Our mission is to foster best practice in emergency eye care and to advance excellence in patient care.

We are committed to providing formal training opportunities and ensuring that healthcare professionals have access to the resources they need to deliver optimal emergency ophthalmic healthcare. Through our meetings, we provide a platform for sharing knowledge, resources and clinical experience, strengthening the community of professionals involved in emergency eye care.

BEECS is dedicated to advancing education, promoting research and supporting the audit of clinical practice within emergency ophthalmology, with the ultimate aim of improving outcomes for both clinicians and patients.

We also aspire to evolve our national role in education and training, while promoting emergency eye care in relation to other ophthalmic subspecialities as well as other medical specialities including, but not limited to, emergency medicine, anaesthetics, paediatrics, neurology, neurosurgery, maxillo-facial surgery, psychiatry, rheumatology, otolaryngological (ENT) surgery, radiology, oncology, microbiology and general practice.

BEECS
Annual Meetings

We organise annual meetings that serve as a platform to discuss the latest guidelines and advancements in emergency eye care, delivered by leading experts in the field. These events provide an opportunity to showcase innovative research and ideas through oral and poster presentations, with recognition and prizes awarded.
